Welcome Note From DCIS at Fairmont Principal

Thank you for considering an international education at DCIS at Fairmont. I want you to know that I don’t just lead this school.  I am a parent first, with my children enrolled here in our dual language immersion program. Long before dreaming that I would be the Principal, I searched for a school that matched my values and hopes for my children. I didn’t just want them to ‘do school’. I wanted them to have experiences that help them grow as humans as part of an interconnected and diverse world.  I hoped that their education would support the building of a more socially just, inclusive and sustainable world.  And that is just what I’ve found and continue to foster now as the school’s principal.

International and Real World Focus

• We teach global cultures and perspectives as well as foster service learning through our community partnerships.  

• Some of our real world experiences include visits to the Capitol Building, Four Mile Historic Park, and Dinosaur Ridge.  Our overnight field trips go to places such as Denver Aquarium, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and Brekenridge. 

Dual Language Immersion

• One classroom in each grade level provides Spanish instruction for Native Spanish Speakers and full Spanish immersion for Native English Speakers who opt-in.  

• DLI begins the student’s path to bilingualism culminating in 5th graders that are fully bilingual and biliterate in both Spanish and English.

Interactive, Hands-On Specials

• PE course focused on swimming, yoga, mindfulness, tabata workouts, and health.  

• Art focused on creation in multiple mediums and student choice driven projects to investigate other cultures and artists around the world.  

• Music focused on learning instruments such as ukuleles, keyboards, drums, recorders, reading music, and more! 

• Mindfulness practices in every classroom, including a mind and body room for students to connect to their feelings and emotions, and learn how to manage and process them.

Celebration of Differences
